At The Raven, every apartment tells a story.

Thoughtfully designed to blend comfort, history, and character, each space offers a distinct experience rooted in the building’s remarkable past. We’re excited to begin sharing the inspiration behind these spaces — starting with Apartment 1: Sanctuary.

Originally the chapel of the historic Lawton-Pratt funeral home that now houses The Raven, Sanctuary is our most luxurious suite: a one-bedroom retreat layered with atmosphere, craftsmanship, and quiet drama.

When designer Jill Adler first entered the space, she was struck by the original stained-glass windows. Bathed in deep greens and warm amber light, the room felt almost cathedral-like — reminiscent of a secluded forest sanctuary. From that moment, the vision became clear: create a peaceful refuge that honored the building’s sacred history while embracing modern comfort.

Throughout the apartment, botanical influences, antique furnishings, and richly layered textures create a mood that feels both grounding and transportive. Among the curated pieces are a vintage pine glass-front bookcase imported from England, a King George III English desk chair, and Sanctuary’s most unforgettable centerpiece: a repurposed coffin transformed into the kitchen island, preserved with its original handles as a subtle nod to the building’s past life.

Jill infused the space with botanical elegance, choosing rich textures and antique furnishings with intention. Among the standout pieces are a vintage pine glass-topped antique bookcase, imported from England, a King George III English desk chair, and perhaps the most unforgettable element: the kitchen island, made from a coffin discovered in the building, complete with its original handles.

The primary bedroom features a plush king-sized bed, soaring ceilings, and an original ornate fireplace that remains as a striking architectural focal point.

Just beyond, guests will find a writing desk tucked in next to the apartment’s 2nd exit / entrance — an ideal spot for morning coffee, journaling, or remote work beneath the glow of the stained glass.

The bathroom was designed to feel spa-like and serene, featuring a spacious walk-in shower, oversized vanity, and an in-unit washer and dryer discreetly concealed behind a curtain. Decorative wallpaper adds another layer of texture and warmth to the space.

Whether you’re here for rest, reflection, or inspiration, Sanctuary is exactly what its name promises – a place to pause, breathe, and feel at home.

Stay tuned—we can’t wait to share more of The Raven with you.
